Tony is the author of several books on the international conference, conventions and meetings industry.
His first title, 'Conferences: A 21st Century Industry', was published by Addison Wesley Longman (now Pearson) in 1998 and quickly became a standard reference for university and college courses in related disciplines.
His second book, 'Conferences and Conventions: a global industry', was published by Elsevier Butterworth-Heinemann in 2003, with a second edition following in 2007. Tony's third book, 'Marketing Destinations and Venues for Conferences, Conventions and Business Events', was a joint venture with Rob Davidson (a very highly respected industry academic from the University of Greenwich and now an industry consultant, trainer and researcher with his own consultancy, MICE Knowledge) and was published in 2006. Tony is actively involved with the Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP), the umbrella body for the business events sector in the UK. His work for BVEP includes compilation of the ‘Britain for Events’ report (published October 2010) with a new report entitled 'Events Are GREAT Britain' published March 2014, a PDF version of the report can be accessed via the BVEP website home page; and a research study on ‘Global Best Practice in Subvention and Bid Support’ (in conjunction with Sally Greenhill of The Right Solution) published October 2011.
Tony also provided a chapter entitled 'Sources of Information and Venue Selection' to the Convention Industry Council's INTERNATIONAL MANUAL 1st Edition published in 2005.
Tony has also contributed a chapter for 'Fundamentals of Destination Management and Marketing' published by the International Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus (now Destination Marketing Association International) jointly with the Education Institute (American Hotel & Lodging Association) in 2005.
He also writes articles for industry trade media, newsletters, and other events/conference-related publications.
